In 2015, the Grammy Award winning Pop/R&B/Dance and style icon Jody Watley established the new vocal trio Shalamar Reloaded, SRL, a new brand group and trademark.
Along with Watley, Shalamar Reloaded or "SRL" features Ohio native male lead vocalist Nate Allen Smith and renowned choreographer Rosero McCoy (Keke Palmer, Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, Toni Braxton,America's Best Dance Crew, Disney's Shake It Up and more..). In a short timespan, Shalamar Reloaded have performed to sold out concerts around the United States (Oakland, New York, Washington D.C., Atlantic City to name a few) as well they've traveled abroad for concerts in Amsterdam (Melkweg), Brazil (Sao Paulo AudioClub), the UK (Let's Rock London, Happy Days Festival) add to the new mix the high profile television appearances that have followed (WGN Morning News Chicago, KTLA Morning News Los Angeles with Sam Rubin, MY Fox5 DC Morning Show), a one hour special on SIRIUSXM's The Groove with BK Kirkland for the first edition of "In The Groove", countless features from Essence, JET, Eurweb, popular music blog SingersRoom to name a few. The hot new video for "The Mood" was premiered on the #1 Celebrity Website PerezHilton.com. The single written by Nate Smith and Ben Selvey will be at digital outlets Oct. 14, 2016. "The Mood" is from the forthcoming "Bridges" full length due in early 2017.
"The Mood" released on Oct.13, 2016 finds Shalamar Reloaded in a feel good contemporary meets classic soul vibe. The sultry video filmed on location in Oahu, Hawaii is an instant conversation starter and was an immediate headline grabber on various music blogs acorss the web. The trio debuted the single live on WUSA9 "Great Day Washington" while in DC for a mini residency at the legndary Blues Alley as well as features on Good Day Washington, Roland Martin NewsOneNow, Fox5 and new features on The Groove with BK Kirkland and Heart & Soul on SIRIUSXM.
For the Spring 2016 single and video O.R.I.G.IN.A.L the trio went for an edgy sound and statement single putting into music some of what they experienced with initial naysayers, internet trolls and haters. "Each of us had something to touch upon and we want people to know we are originals to this group - no replacements, wannabees or imposters. We're on a mission to build a broader fanbase not locked into days gone by, we have something for everyone - all ages, inclusive to all. We give a show that rivals any contemporary concert on the road today. "
'SlowDance' Remixed was released to kick off 2016 and on the heels successful concerts in America, and Japan. One of the concerts in Tokyo was broadcast on Fuji Next TV to a live national audience.
The trio’s dynamic stage show has received rave reviews blending soul, hip hop and funk with contemporary choreography and stage production. The SRL new music has become instant crowd favorites when doing their set within the Jody Watley concert experience.
Watley's set includes signature solo hits like “Friends,” “Looking For a New Love,” and “Don’t You Want Me,” as well as music from her 2014 critically acclaimed Paradise EP. That album’s first single “Nightlife” – her 19th Billboard Top 20 Dance hit; a UK Top 10 Commercial Pop and UK Top 5 soul hit – added another notch to her impressive chart history: six Top 10 Pop singles; thirteen #1 Dance Singles; seven Top 5 R&B Singles; two Top 20 pop albums; 2 Top 10 R&B albums; and a Top 5 R&B album. Paradise celebrates dance music’s classic sounds and motifs (nodding to disco, House, soulful R&B,) while looking squarely to the future. As an artistic statement, it’s a perfect encapsulation of Watley’s career thus far as she says "This is where I’ve been / this is what I’ve done - this is where I am and what I’m doing right now. This is how I’m mapping the future and SRL are now a part of that."
"That's a part of what our forthcoming "Bridges" album is about; building pathways for those what want to be on it and new connections. Inspired by the past because we've all learned from it - but wanting to build something new and better for today moving toward the future. Bringing people together in the world through music, all ages and ethnicities. A universal squad so to speak. It's great to have this type of group experience and I'm happy the universe brought this to me...we want to be together and work well as a team."
The always busy and mulit-talented Rosero McCoy says emphatically while working on the set of a new Nickleodeon show as choreographer “There’s new merchandise for fans to purchase, people are vibin to our personal style and connecting on social media, making fan videos and things like that to show support." "We have more music and video on the way. We want to connect with this generation and all those before who are still wanting to have a good time and appreciate what we're doing. We're just getting started.” Nate Smith, SRL's instant heartthrob adds, "It's all quality stuff and it's great to have this opportunity."
The music is released on Watley's longtime label Avitone Recordings - "Fueling Quality Music ~since 1995.
